Film at the Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre once enjoyed a brief period as a cinema in the 1930s and its intimate auditorium recalls the golden era of the movies. Our partners for this initiative are local company The White Bus who provide local, national and international programming/installation for indoor and outdoor cinema for genre specific, art house and independent productions, artist installations, world cinema, classics, documentaries and short films from quality local and world film makers.

A SINGLE MAN
110mins : 2009 : Certificate '12A'
Colin Firth rightly took the plaudits for his powerful performance as a sensitive college professor trying to come to terms with the accidental death of his younger lover. But its 1962, he's gay, and, when he is told the funeral is 'only family', his world completely disintegrates.
A Single Man is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.
Colin Firth is ably supported by Julianne Moore, wonderful as the gin-soaked best friend who still carries a torch. And the period ambiance is superbly realised by celebrated designer Tom Ford, making his directorial debut.
